Thursday, September 6:  Finally, I make it to the western tip of Oia to see the fabulous sunset.  According to Wikipedia, “the famous Oia sunset, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful in the world, keeps tourists flocking down to the castle, waiting for the moment when the sun slips down on the calm sea of the caldera.  In the evening hordes of people arrive simply to watch its sunset. Every available seat, wall, step or patch of ground is occupied and picnicking while watching the sunset is almost de rigueur.”

me in Oia for its famous sunset

I find a spot to stand and watch the sun sink slowly into the sea. Because I stopped for dinner at Skala, I’m too late to grab one of the prime views, but it’s lovely just the same.

About nomad, interrupted

As of August 10, 2017, I'm now taking a break from living abroad. I'm living in Oakton, Virginia and looking for my next opportunity. Last year, I lived in China and taught English at Sino-Canadian International College. I also taught at a university in Nizwa, Oman for two years, and in Korea's public schools for one year. I love to travel and have been to 30 countries.

I am glad you could load this blog. It’s gorgeous!

    • Thank you, Cee! I can’t tell you how time consuming each post I write takes. I know I’m a very impatient person, but the fact that I am able to sit through this excruciating process shows I must have some deep stores of patience somewhere…. 🙂

  2. Lovely shots! You pictured the sunset beautifully! 🙂

    • Thank you Ioanna! I’m sure you have seen the Oia sunset??

Yes i saw it! It is indeed beautiful! I think though that i like better the dawn at my home town. It is so peaceful and quiet, and you can smell the ground from the night’s humidity. The only drawback is that you have to wake up early…! 😛

Your dawn sounds lovely, but you’re right about the drawback of having to get up early. What about sunSET in your hometown?

Ah yes, dinner with your your absolutely enchanting “friend” Love the pics – so lovely. You should have pushed someone over the edge then you could have taken their spot. Blame it on the lousy service you got.
